Equine
Equine Physiotherapy
Horses are athletes. Injury, muscle soreness/dysfunction, and gait abnormalities can all affect how your horse performs.
Physiotherapy can aid in rehabilitation, muscle conditioning, joint health, pain management and some neurological conditions.
A Physiotherapy consultation may include:
- Gait analysis
- Joint range of motion
- Muscle strength/length testing
- Discussing your horses medical history, current medications and current exercise routine
- Observation – conformation/posture, muscle development and symmetry, behaviour and willingness to perform
- Massage
- Dry needling
- Laser therapy (Veterinary class 3B and 4 laser)
A treatment plan will then be devised specific to you and your horses needs as a combination. All Equine Physiotherapy consults are conducted at the property of your horse.
Horse and Rider Bio-mechanical Assessment
Horse riding is a team effort. An assessment as a combination can be so important in determining correct postural alignment, straightness and how your position may be affecting the horse under saddle.
Being unbalanced or uneven through your body while riding e.g. collapsing to one side, can lead to compensatory movements by your horse to correct it. This can have a negative impact on the performance of your horse.
Specific exercises or treatment will be given to help correct any rider postural imbalances and advice on how to maintain the right position for you.
Our Horse Rider specific Pilates may also help to correct and strengthen any weakness and to posture in the saddle.
